We have launched the campaign: “Be a Turtle Parent” where you can donate €100 (or 115USD) and become a turtle parent by adopting a turtle nest for a year.

In 2025, Sea Sense recorded around 260 sea turtle nests along the coastline of Tanzania, each one a fragile promise of new life. However, due to a critical funding gap, we are facing challenges in ensuring full protection for every nest this season, leaving them vulnerable to poaching, predators, and environmental threats.

Through our “Be a Turtle Parent” campaign, you can make a direct impact by helping safeguard these nests, support conservation efforts and give hatchlings a fighting chance to reach the ocean. Your support can turn uncertainty into survival—for every nest, and every turtle.

ADOPT A NEST AND GET

  • Email updates about the progress of your nest
  • Photos and/or videos of the hatchlings
  • A certificate of your adoption from Sea Sense

Each year Sea Sense requires EURO 26,000 (USD 30,000) to enable the best grassroots protection of around 260 sea turtle and its nesting sites. With your EURO 100 (or USD115), you will protect one turtle nest and make a direct and lasting impact on marine conservation. Per nest your donation enables community engagement on a daily basis,

This campaign is launched in partnership with OceanLove, combining our shared commitment to protecting sea turtles and preserving marine ecosystems. Together, we aim to safeguard vulnerable nests and support the survival of future generations.

THE NESTS!
Mother turtle lays a nest which contains 60 - 200 eggs roughly the size of a ping-pong ball she then covers the eggs and returns to the ocean, leaving the nest vulnerable to predators such as monitor lizards, honey badgers, and red ants while human poaching can also threaten both the eggs and adult turtles.
The eggs then incubate in their sand pit for 45 – 55 days. Once hatched, the tiny turtles emerge together, digging their way to the surface before instinctively making their way toward the sea, where they swim in a frantic burst into the open ocean and begin a journey that can last a decade or more; yet despite this remarkable start, only a small fraction survive to adulthood due to the many natural and human-induced challenges they face, making every stage of this journey exceptionally fragile.

SEASENSE MAKES A DIFFERENCE
That’s where Sea Sense steps in. Through grassroots, community-led approach, local villagers are trained and empowered as Conservation Officers (“COs”) that act as true ambassadors for conservation. They patrol nesting beaches day and night, protect vulnerable nests, deter poachers, and monitor each stage from egg laying to the first tiny flippers reaching the ocean.
In the past two decades, Sea Sense has safeguarded over 630,000 hatchlings and their nesting habitats.
WHY MARINE TURTLES NEED OUR HELP
Marine turtles have existed for millions of years, yet today most species are endangered. They play a vital role in maintaining healthy oceans, but face increasing threats caused by human activity, including:
That’s why we launched the campaign: “Be a Turtle Parent” where you can donate €100 (USD 115) and adopt a fully protected turtle nest.

WE INVITE YOU TO BECOME A TURTLE PARENT.
By adopting a nest, you play a direct role in protecting it from the moment the eggs are laid to the moment hatchlings reach the ocean. It is a generous act with a real and lasting impact.
This is more than a donation, it's a chance to protect the future of sea turtles and help restore what has been lost. By adopting, whether as an individual, family, school, or group of friends, you play a direct role in giving these vulnerable creatures a real chance to survive and thrive. Join us in making a lasting difference.

HOW YOUR ADOPTION SUPPORTS CONSERVATION
A €100 (or USD 115) nest adoption helps fund:

  • Beach patrols on a daily basis by trained Conservation Officers
  • Nest monitoring and protection from predators and poachers
  • Data collection and scientific monitoring
  • Community engagement and awareness programs
  • Safe release of hatchlings into the ocean

As a turtle parent you shall receive;

  • Email updates about the progress of your nest
  • Photos and videos of the hatchlings
  • A certificate of adoption from Sea Sense
