Strong leadership is essential for the sustainable management of marine and coastal resources but local leaders often lack access to information on the principles of good governance. In many villages, political differences are an obstacle to proper participation and inclusion in community-based fisheries management activities. As a result, elected leaders are rarely held accountable to the citizens they serve.
Sea Sense provides governance training to village and ward councillors, focusing on the principles of good governance including accountability, transparency, democracy, participation and communication.
